Does CBD Affect Short-Term Memory?

Cbd cream for heel pain is a natural compound found in the cannabis or hemp plant and it is not known to negatively impact memory processing. In fact, a number of studies suggest that it improves memory performance and has anti-anxiety effects. This makes it a great supplement for people who want to improve their cognitive function without the risks associated with prescription medications.

The current study was designed to test whether a daily dose of CBD (800 mg) improved working memory tasks in dependent cigarette smokers who were abstinent overnight. The results did not support this hypothesis. In particular, the CBD group did not show a benefit on manipulation of information indexed by backwards digit span and maintenance indexed by forward digit span. This result should be treated as preliminary until replicated. Furthermore, this trial did not control for urinary markers of cannabis use and the cognitive assessments could be sensitive to practice effects.

However, there is evidence that the hippocampus, which is involved in learning and memory, is activated by THC and may be modulated by the CB1 receptor. When THC binds to the CB1 receptor, it increases levels of glutamate, a neurotransmitter that forms memories. The excess glutamate disrupts the encoding and retrieval of new memories and reduces existing memories, and it may also impair cellular memory processes.

In contrast, a combination of THC and CBD reduced the reconsolidation of fear memory in rats, suggesting that the activity of CB1 receptors on hippocampal cells is required for efficient learning and memory consolidation. A PPARa and PPARg antagonist (which inhibits the activation of these receptors) also impaired fear memory reconsolidation.
