WHERE I LIKE TO SPEND MY TIME

a road in the woods

SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SITE
I was trained as a typesetter/typographer when everything was set in metal; monotype and linotype were the standards when I first learned my trade, though that is not what I do by trade these days | Nevertheless, it certainly influences my perspectives on design and composition for my website, the blog I maintain, even how I look at the world in general | In a sense, this site is also yet another natural progression from hot type, where I first started in graphics | With the training came a philosophical perspective that printers, in particular, were responsible for the transfer of ideas from one person to another and had an obligation to gather and disseminate information to the populace at large |
I'm talking about an approach to information sharing quite unlike the propgandist approaches you find at places like FOX or Sinclair Media | These are two examples of [more blatent thant others but they are not alone] information manipulators, with nary an interest in fostering critical thinking or fostering the spread of knowledge | And it is this, expanding our collective knowledge base, encouraging human growth and consciousness, that my efforts are hopefully intended to spur amongst others |
Nowadays the equipment is a lot easier to handle, but the subject matter still as weighty as then ...and printers ~dispensers of information and ideas~ still have every much as a responsibility as ever | It's regrettable that so few entrusted with this charge live up to it. But we can start now

SUBJECTS YOU'LL FIND HERE
rondak main page It may not be any surprise that I have my own points of view and biases as well | These shape the content of my mental wanderings, even, perhaps, the direction | So it may be helpful to get some idea on what things you'll find while traveling this site | Therefore I submit the following: you find perspectives on:
  • human rights
  • environmental concerns
  • life as a visual artist
  • 21st century feudalism
  • progressive politics
  • aboriginal culture
  • new urbanism
  • permaculture
  • sustainable technology
  • non-traditional families
  • achievable utopias
...to name but a few of the topics I'll write about

ABOUT THIS PROJECT?
It's now 24 years since I've started my journaling efforts | During that time I would often make log entries on park benches, in coffee shops ...even in stripper bars | I've stood out exposed to the public while sketching or writing | Often, especially in the early days, I hated this -people gawking at what I was doing | But as I became accustomed to people looking over my shoulder while working I also got more comfortable | I now continue my efforts chronicaling life as I get to observe it, only now ~with my online edition~ I'm welcoming the looks over the shoulder |
What you'll find here will include both older works and essays as well as things just completed and works in progress | At times, this site may exhibit some essays written or illustrations, collage, calligraphy or photography I've produced during the years I've been keeping this project going |
I hope that what you find here (pages, contents and links) to be educational, entertaining, thought provoking, troubling at times, interesting and ...when suitable ~ filling |

AND WHO IS YOUR HOST HERE?
My "bullet point" bio would include: Mid 20th century working class American by birth | I’m a father and a grandfather | I've never known what it's like not to be able to draw | Prefer life as uncomplicated as possible | Vocation # 1: Patients’ Rights Advocate at a state-run psychiatric facility | Vocation # 2: Graphic Arts / Illustration / Design / Calligrapher / Essayist | Avocation/Interests: Historic Preservation & Community Planning | Decentralist yet global in orientation and thought | I support and favor firearms ownership, hunting, fishing, trapping and what I think of as "modern aboriginal culture" | Progressive/leftist political orientation (yeah, I know it isn’t fashionable) | IQ Eligible for MENSA but not likely to join | ...for that matter, I'm not much of a joiner, yet neither do I isolate myself | A quiet roughneck, I feel free to speak my mind | and oh – I’m gay, to boot (so get over it already) |

SO... WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I'd like to hear your comments about the site | I know I have readers, but don't have a clue about your thoughts or reactions to what you have seen here |
Just amble on over and drop a few words s via e-mail at will.brady-AT-gmail.com [I figure you know the drill here but if you don't there is a direct e-mail box that'll open up on the right of this screen]
This is a personal site; I'm not asking for anything other than feedback | I'm pretty resilient | If you don't like what you find, don't be shy | I'm not gonna start a flame war or anything | Just want to know what people think | Though if you don't like something, give some reason why | Gives me some idea of what you find interesting or not |
     Thanks ~ Will
