jun 26 | directions for the future | This page hasn't much been used to talk about the world in a larger context. I've spent much of the time on personal ramblings, pointed to websites I've found amusing, interesting, educational or curious. And of the site in general, there may have been some hints about directions I seem to be going, but some have critiqued that the site is, well, just too large and rambling to keep track on what it is I wish to focus.
Truth be told, to focus is wide angled, and I expect shall widen more in the future.
Splitting off rondak, with it's societal / political / envirnomental contexts, was one attempt to deal with the widening. The subscriber-only male libertine section has been split off out of respect to more sensitive concerns (both as a convenient way to deal with self-described moralists and to maintain some control over number of visits).
In coming months, you'll see a renewed attention to issues such as Land Stewardship in the 21st Century, more original essays and art (including [hello David] an online edition of my 1991 essay Economic Treason) and more original content in general. It shall not all be my own.
The site shall not, however, be fully interactive. Furthermore, the "front page" to the contributors section will more likely be located on rondak than on the Journal.
Hang in there and watch it happen. ...and let me know what you think

mr. clooney makes for eye candy On the Lighter Side | More men on the 'Net... Mind you, I'm no fan of posting pix of famous people just for the sake of it, but this shot of George Clooney floats my boat any day. Even if it does remind me of the Porgy Tirebiter line about "..where rich Hollywood stars portray working stiffs..." Clooney says in a TV Guide interview that he chose "Marky-Mark" Wahlberg to work with in "Perfect Storm" cuz Wahlberg has photos of Clooney "...with a farm animal — my own pig!" (anybody who finds these pix on a website, please let me know, heh heh heh! | Straight-Acting.com is a website for gay guys who want to see how they make the measure of appearing straight-acting.com's website heterosexual to the world without Gaydar. Mind you, I fall into the camp of not caring what people know about my general orientation, yet I am also acutely aware (as you can see by my low rating) that I've made more than one woman blow out her coffee at me when she found out I wasn't coming on to here but just being a friendly guy. Back to the website... SA calls itself the "masculinely politically incorrect site, me around age 3 or 4 but it has got to be with tounge-in-cheek (considering that there's an advert for a Cher CD at the top of the page). For my money, it's good dirty fun. Go look.

jun 21 | Updates | Jeeze! It's been 21 days since I wrote anything new in the diary. Unforgivable! Not that I've been just lolling about, mind you. I have been working on cosmetic updates to some pages, (the Mental Health/Psyche pages for one, which really needed a clean-up. Still working on 'em too!) I've also worked on some new additions to some "subscribed" pages (well, not subscribed, per se, but some invitation only sections I maintain).
And I've been spending a great deal of time trying to do healthy things. That's right, my doc thinks I need to lose weight, so I've been going to physical therapy in preparation for joining the YMCA  for the exercise. One particularly pleasant motivator here was when I went to the town dump (landfil site for those of you who want things sanitized) and watched from Australia, men on bikes a woman pulling  five bicycles out of her oversized SUV. What was wrong with them? Dunno. One had a flat, the others the kids had outgrown. So - bingo! - I snapped up one that turned out to have only three broken spokes and some non-existent brake pads. Total repair cost less than $70 [USA] for a nearly new 15 speed bike. Maybe there is some use for Yuppie Scum after all. But they need to be more careful as to where they toss their garbage. Next time call somebody to pick it up. nature conservancy
At the beginning of the month, I took part in a retreat co-sponsored by Nature Conservancy and UCONN Cooperative Extension on Land Stewardship. This was held at a private family camp, the main building of which overlooked an impressive vista in the Eight Mile River watershed (one of 40 cooperative extension "Last Great Places" on earth according to Conservancy folks). We had to make commitments to projects for the next year. Mine was to develop a webpage on land stewardship. This shall be placed on the Environment section of my pages. So watch for this late in the summer of 2000.

about "Short Notes"
"Short Notes" was the title of a column I wrote while working for a newspaper in the Adirondack Mountains some years ago. The format was similar to what you'll find here, except augmented with pictures and maps. The subject matter shall sometimes be personal, at other times comments on events or situations of which I am aware. Comments, suggestions welcomed but not always acted upon.
