mystery in orkney forest
road trip ta philly / part one | Last weekend, I'd gone to start cleaing out Peggy's garage ~ first serious attempt since 1996 | During the drive down I take the oft avoided Jersey Shore routes ~ Garden State Parkway and the Jersey Turnpike | The trek, even though taken on a Friday afternoon during New Yawk on the garden state pkwy megalopoli rush hour, when city habitues are all fleeing to their

personal woodscapes ~ was completed in a little under 6 hours
Enroute down, music and auditory distractions were successfully provided by a series of NPR affiliated through CT, the New Yawk metro area, NJ and donw near Philly | While it was heartening to find a Jersey shore station doing two hour broadcast of Canadian programming I was particularly thrilled with the Bop-era jazz music while sailing through Newark and New Brunswick | It put a great upbeat tone on the drive |
Primitive me, without a cellphone, I forgot to snag a phone card before leaving CT and discovered it would cost me what I'd though to be way too cost prohibitive ...finally got one at the Mickey D's on the highway |
Dining enroute was modest | A meal from home eaten cold augmented by McD coffee while watching a wedding-ringed burly blue collar guy discreetly check out the dense privacy of some bushes still within full view, while waiting for his assignation's arrival | No, I didn't go to see what they were doing in there |
from shaun o'boyle's photo essay      Once in Philly, I shut down the raido and took off my hat in respect to lost souls while passing Byberry Hospital | Though I can guess at the horrors, I preferred not to image their details | (photo credits here go to Shaun O'Boyle, who maintains an impressive website on Modern Ruins that's well worth the visit) |
Not long after that slight side trip, I was home | More about the weekend shortly |
impeach the buggers big dick gets what he wants more disturbing dubya follies | I s'pose it comes as no surprise that the school yard bully running the country is more interested in kicking the probverbial teeth outta another bully (Saddam Hussein) than in working to solving the fact that close to a billion souls drink, bathe in, or are otherwise forced to use polluted water |
And isn't it reassuring that he's surrounded by folks like dick cheney, 'leesa rice and ari fleischer to help him in his decision making?
Seriously folks, It's good ta see that somebody has begun ta make a motion to have this bunch impeached!      ...Okay, enough ranting on that.
mapsite for Northern Liberties, Philadelphia, PA
liberty yards | Libery Yards is the brainchild of a whole passel of people in Philly who have both worked at revitalizing a once decrepit neighborhood (Northern Liberties, just north of Arch Street and not far from the probverbial cradle of American Liberty) and are promoting a citizen-initiated construction of a new sports stadium |
Now, I'm no fan of big building projects that benefit corporate and political machine buddies, but this one is different in that the motivation comes from folks living in the area proposed | Their proposal flies in the face of another group of suits (which includes the mayor) who apparently feel the citizen-initiated proposal won't personally line their pockets as thickly as another site that lacks community support but already has an ENRON style financing machine in place | Help the Philly pols decide on this matter ~ write them now |
P.S. ~ Thank God for steady rain!
