24 july 02 | return from cyber exile |
Around about the 20th of may my computer crashed big time // Not being among the class that can
just up and purchase another computer, I had to figure out what went wrong with it // It's taken until now figure this out...
and even at that I don't know what it was that as got the thing operating again.
pix o' the day | toiler / based on photo of rumanian laborer | © 1990-2002 - wbrady --v There were a couple of you who wrote me (I was still able to remotely access my e-mail, thankfully) and were beyond rude about this unexplained hiatus // Well lissen up soldiers, remember that this is a free site and one done without budget at that // I believe there are a couple of english language phrases that you can apply to yourselves // Disappointing, really // I'd though I had a better grade of readership for this site // Ah well // So here we are again and without further ado, the site goes back into active mode // For the rest of you who either said nothing or sent thoughtful queries, thanks for hanging in there //
economic treason updates | Heartening to see the senior officers of Adelphia Communications hauled off in police cars in
handcuffs // Though I remain skeptical how long they'll be behind bars after their arraignment // Anybody think they might need assistance from the Public Defender's Office? I mean, a body
can piss away $ 2 billion USA dollars pretty fast these days // Just spend it in the stock market //
I took a peek at Adelphia's News and Information pages just to see how the megacorp is handling this turn of events// Here's what I found:
INVESTOR RELATIONS You really gotta see this one for yourself: http://www.adelphia.com/invest/ but if you don'tr want to go there, the page is (as of 1030 EDT) Go figure. CUSTOMER CARE We can be assured: the closing of this page states in the affirmative that they want people to: "...Share our success with those who make it happen ... By caring for our customers, our people, our community and our stockholders." You can contact them directly: Adelphia Corporate Headquarters: One North Main Street Coudersport, PA 16915 Main Phone: (814) 274-9830 or e-mail 'em (they want your home address to do this but don't seem to ask for mom's maiden name or your social security number): from Adelphia's e-mail forms page On the lighter side of Treason, I found the 29 july 02 Shouts & Murmurs column by Bruce McCall to be a real hoot! One brief quip from it:
as chairman of the now beleaguered Halliburton company by admitting that he might have been guilty of hiring dumb secretaries who kept typing the wrong figures but always started crying if he corrected them. "And just look what I get for trying to be a good guy," he said."
But you realy ought to go and read the whole thing directly (see above link) // Enjoy. miscellaney | Needless to say, there's been a great deal happening since dropping out of sight last May // Went to Montreal for starters. That was GREAT! and went the weekend that getting into museums was free (last weekend in May, if your'e interested) Have had more than the usual trials and travails at work // Two people went out ~one resigned, the other on medical leave, and lost our clerical support person to the campus road crew supervisor // This resulted in two of us with a potential client complaints caseload of over 400 people // Ha Ha! If we were having troubles getting things resolved before... you get the picture We saw Celia Cruz in concert and there was hardly anyone still seated by the end of the event In case you are wondering what the postcard image has to do with the rest of the page, well, nothing, actually // Just a neat image I found while going through the papers of an old friend, Hubert Crowley // Mailed to Mrs. William Merriam in Baldwin LI NY, it was sent from "Sue" on 21 march 1935 // suggested reading deep time | How Humanity Communicates Across Time | by Gregory Benford | © 1999 - Abbenford Associates | publisher: Avon Books/Bard NOT GUILTY by Reason of Insanity | One Man's Recovery | by Randy Starr | © 2000 | publisher: Recovery Press / University of Chicago Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation IN times such as these, we need to pay homage to the Great Spirit, in whatever form one recognizes this helps in all of us staying healthy
